An Extra Walk Tigani Castle

TIGANI CASTLE THURSDAY 7TH JUNE

This walk was an extra walk that we do from time to time if enough people are interested. It was an all day walk with a picnic at Tigani Castle. So 9 of us left Stoupa early for the one and a half hour drive into the Deep Mani to walk what everyone here calls the "Pan Handle". We parked at the village of Aghios Kyriaky, that is where the tarmac ended and the track down to the pan handle starts. It was a very warm and sunny day as we made our way down to the coast, with stunning views back up the Mani coast and of Cape Grosso. The Pan Handle is a narrow strip of land with the sea on either side which leads to Tigani Castle sat on top of a flat top hill. Here we wandered through the ruins of the castle and sat on the walls for lunch. After exploring the castle we returned by the same track back to the cars. We then went for refreshments in the village of Stavri before our return to Stoupa. A big thanks to Martin & Liz for leading the walk.
