KAMBOS CIRCULAR

KAMBOS CIRCULAR TUESDAY 28TH MAY 2012

Today's walk saw us reach our highest total yet for people on a walk. 34 and JJ the dog made our way to the Mani village of Kambos. On a sunny warm morning we left the village church and followed the road from Kambos towards Kentro. After one kilometre we turned off on a track which would eventually lead us down to the old bridge in the bottom of the Ridimo gorge. This is where we took a well deserved break, before beginning our climb back to Kambos via another track. It was a very nice walk that was finished off with a lovely lunch at Miranda's Taverna in the square at Kambos.

PROASTIO CIRCULAR

PROASTIO CIRCULAR WALK TUESDAY 22ND MAY 2012

Today's walk was led by Proastio resident Big Mick, who took us on one of his favourite walks from Proastio on a circular walk. passing near to Exohori. There were 14 people on the walk, which was reduced in numbers by the early morning rain, which stopped at exactly 09.30. For the dog lovers JJ was in attendance and also found a few friends see the pictures. So the walk saw us climb out of the village and head uphill on tracks towards the village of Exohori. A break was taken at a small chapel just outside the village, it was slightly overcast and rain kept threatening but never arrived. Taking the road from Exohori we began our decent before turning off on to another track which would eventually return us to Proastio, the sun began to shine on our return and we stopped to admire wild dog roses growing in to the olive trees. We arrived back in Proastio for lunch at Angelos's kafenion, where Voula cooked us a wonderful lunch washed down with a glass of wine or three.

TENARO POINT PICNIC AN EXTRA WALK

TENARO POINT AND PICNIC THURSDAY 17th MAY

Today saw us do an extra walk, as part of our expanding walks programme in the Mani. These walks have a slightly different format to them, than our Tuesday walks. They usually last all day and involve a picnic and cover places further away from our base in Stoupa.

So 17 of us and JJ the dog left Stoupa for the two hour drive south to the most southern tip of mainland Greece and the second most southerly point in mainland Europe. Stopping for coffee on the way and also for a brief look at Vathia. We arrived at the car park for the 45 minute walk to the light house at Tenaro point. Once there we had a picnic and after one hour returned back to the cars. It was a sunny day but the wind did rather get up on return journey. On our return to the cars our journey back to Stoupa took us via Gerolimenos were we had a refreshing cool drink and some people even managed ice cream. A word of thanks to Bob, Stuart and Richard for driving us down there and to Ceceile for providing me with some extra pictures.
