Spring Walks 2014

Mani Walks will start on Tuesday 6th May. Meet outside The Lefktron Hotel, Stoupa, 09.30. The first walk will be lead by Steve.

PLATSA & NOMITSA

Platsa & Nomitsa Thursday 31st October

Today was our last walk of our Autumn 2013 programme. On another wonderful sunny day we started our walk in Platsa. There were 13 of us and Jay the dog that set out from Platsa that took us up a kalderimi at the back of the village giving us wonderful mountain views. We then headed off towards Nomitsa calling in at the new amphitheatre on the way. We planned a refreshment break at the butchers taverna in Nomitsa but it was closed. So we had too make our way back to Platsa via the fresh water springs of Avli. For lunch at Yorgios's kafenion in the square at Platsa. A big thank you to those that helped out with transport.
Also a big thank you to you all who took part in our walks this year, that is an amazing 342 people (Wow).
Also a big thank you to all of you who follow this blog in the 3 years since I started writing we have now had over 10,000 visitors to the site. A big thank you from myself and Steve.

CAPE TENARO

Cape Tenaro Tuesday 29th October

This was one of our extra special walks that we do now and again. An earlier start than usual saw 7 of head off for the deep south of the Mani Peninsular. We drove as far as the road would allow and then parked and started the walk. We made our way down past some Roman mosaics on our way to the lighthouse at the southern most tip of this part of the European mainland. A glorious sunny day and very little wind made for pleasant walking. We had a picnic at the lighthouse before our return walk where some of us collected some rocks and took them home. A refreshing beer was had before we drove back to Stoupa.

KAMBOS CICULAR

Kambos Circular Walk Thursday 24th October

Today saw 9 of us and Jay the dog head off to Kambos. Another warm sunny day as we left Kambos for the village of Oravo. We visited the village church before heading down into the Koskarakas Gorge. Here we stopped for a break before beginning the climb out of the gorge and heading back to Kambos for lunch at Mirandas Taverna.

PROASTIO CIRCULAR

Proastio Circular Walk Thursday 10th October

Well a cloudy overcast day saw 11 of us and Jay the dog walk from the village of Proastio. We climbed out of the village up to the two churches of Aghios Theodora. After a quick look round the churches we climbed further up towards the village of Exohori encountering a tethered horse on the way. As we approached Exohori the rain started to fall, we tried to take refuge in a small church but could not all fit in. After the passing shower we began our descent back to Proastio, this time encountering a donkey. We arrived back at Proastio just before the next onslaught of rain. Lunch was taken at Giota's Kafenion.
