A Winter Walk With Mel 28th Dec 2011

I am organising a walk this Wednesday 28th December.  The weather on that day is the best of the week, so should be nice.  The walk will finish with a picnic at Vaidenitsa monastery in Vassiliki Forest.  Everyone is welcome to come, just bring food and/or drink for sharing at the picnic.

 

Meet at 10.30 at the road junction below Kastania where the road starts towards Saidona.

 

We will then walk by the road towards Saidona and round to the forest.  This is a fairly easy walk but is about 8 kilometres.

 

If anyone just wants to join the picnic, let me know and we can discuss.  Would probably have to contact you en route with an ETA.  The monastery is a 5-10 minute walk off the road which is unavoidable.

 

Hope a few of you will join me!  Let me know so we know who we're meeting.

DOLI CIRCULAR

DOLI CIRCULAR WALK 1ST NOVEMBER 2011

Today's walk was the last in the Autumn walk programme. There were 15 of us on the walk and for the dog lovers JJ came along too. It was an overcast day which made it ideal for walking. We parked near the bus shelter in Doli and headed up the road taking the turning at the top of the hill and then following a track which would lead us to the church Halambros, were we had a short rest. After a short walk on the road we headed of for the church of Aghios Paraskave, which gave us some stunning views over the Gulf of Messinias to Petalidi.

We then took the old road from there back to Doli where we had a refreshment stop at the Kafenion in the square. We then went to Kambos for lunch at Miranda's.

A big thank you to everyone who helps make these walks the success they are and hopefully we will have some winter walks to report on soon. Thanks to all 156 people of have sampled our walks this autumn and the 292 this year. We hope to see you all again next year.

VYROS GORGE

VYROS GORGE 25TH OCTOBER 2011

There were 22 people on today's walk and for the dog lovers JJ was with us. The morning did not start well as we missed the bus in Kardamilli to Malta for our intended walk, you can blame the leader for that one. Instead it was decided to walk down the Vyros Gorge. We left Kardamilli via the old town where Tommy showed us the old town baths. We then climbed up the kalderimi towards Aghios Sophia. Turning off just before reaching the church. We then began our descent towards Vyros gorge. A rest was taken when we arrived at the gorge. We then followed the dried up river bed back to Kardamilli. Taking in the Lakaki monastery on the way. Arriving back in Kardamilli for lunch at Dyscouri Taverna overlooking the harbour. This should have been the last walk of the autumn walk programme but due to demand there will be another walk next week. Meet 09.30 Lefktron Hotel, Stoupa.

PROASTIO CIRCULAR

PROASTIO CIRCULAR WALK 18TH OCTOBER 2011

Today's walk was lead by Steve. There were 12 people and JJ the dog on the walk which started and finished in the village of Proastio. It was a circular walk which took just over 3 hours and finished with lunch at Angelos Kafenion. Thank you to Tommy Haliday for providing the pictures.

KAMBOS CIRCULAR

KAMBOS CIRCULAR TUESDAY 11TH OCTOBER 2011 

There were 19 people and JJ the dog on today's walk, which took us from the village of Kambos on a 3 hour circular walk. We left Kambos on the road passing the the church and heading out to the village of Orova. We then took a track which would eventually lead us down to the Ridino gorge, where we took a short break on the bridge over the gorge. Our return route took us via the deserted village of Toubia and an old monastery. Before returning to Kambos where we had lunch at Miranda's taverna.
