PLATSA & NOMITSA
PLATSA & NOMITSA THURSDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER
Another great turnout on another hot sunny day in the Mani. Today saw 23 of us and little Jay the dog set off from the village of Platsa, for a circular walk via Nomitsa. One strange encounter was a horse blocking the path that refused to move out of the shade. Thanks Lisa for getting to move a little so we could pass. We enjoyed some beautiful views up the coastline towards Stoupa and Kardamilli. We stopped at the butcher's Taverna in Nomitsa for a refreshing drink and returned to Platsa for lunch at Yorgosis Kafenion for an excellent lunch and a beer or two.

NEOHORI & GNATZA THURSDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 2013
Today saw 27 of us leave Stoupa and head for the local hills. Another good turn out saw us leave Stoupa and head off to the village of Lefktron where we met up with Ceceil & Bob and their new dog Jay. (See pictures) It was a very hot day as we climbed up and away from Lefkton to the area called Gnatza. Here we had wonderful views back over Stoupa. On we went until we arrived at the 3 Saints Church and some shade where we had a refreshment break. We then dropped down into the Langade gorge and another shady spot for a rest before climbing up to Neohori and lunch. Which was taken at Spiro's kafenion by the church we had an excellent rocket, feta and orange salad, Spiro's home grown rocket. After lunch we made our way back down to Stoupa.Thursday, 5 September 2013

VYROS GORGE WALK THURSDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER 2013
This was the first walk of our autumn walks programme. It saw 20 of us leave the square in Kardamilli and head out to the old town of Kardamilli where we given a short talk the history of the Mani and Kardamilli by the curator of the museum there. Onward and we started our climb up past the tombs of Castor and Pollocks the heavenly twins. The climb continued up almost to Aghios Sofia. We then turn away from Ag Sofia and started our descent down into the Vyros gorge. On reaching the gorge we took a well deserved break before we started to traverse down the gorge's river bed. On the way down we stopped off and climbed up to Lakai Monastery. Before continuing on down and back to Kardamilli. Lunch was taken at the Diosukouri tavern overlooking Kardamilli harbour.
