KAMBOS CIRCULAR WALK

KAMBOS CIRCULAR WALK TUESDAY 28TH MAY 2013

Another overcast and cloudy day, but still very warm day, saw 26 and JJ the dog set out from Kambos. Our aim was was to walk down into the Ridimo gorge. With a slight technical hitch at the beginning, due to a vehicle breakdown on the way to Kambos. We all set off in pursuit of our walk leader Steve. The walk to the gorge took just over and hour. A rest was taken at the bridge. Drama was to follow on our way back, when we found a horn nosed viper on the track. We arrived back in Kambos without further incident and lunch was taken in the square at Mirandas. Thank you to everyone who helped out with transport.
Update from Peter Chamberlain a picture of the horn nosed viper

PLATSA CIRCULAR TUESDAY 21ST MAY

PLATSA CIRCULAR TUESDAY 21ST MAY 2013

On another warm and sunny day, after last weeks postponement. 35 of us left Stoupa for the small village of Platsa. For the dog followers JJ was in attendance and on the way collect one or two friends. So 35 people left the village square for a walk into the nearby foothills giving wonderful views of Aghios Nikolas and Stoupa coastline in the distance. The track we followed lead us eventually to the village of Nomitsa, where freshly picked mulberries where handed round. Nothing like fresh fruit picked straight from the tree. From there we took a lower track which would take us past some fresh water springs and the new theatre at Platsa. Before we had lunch in the square at Yorgios kafenion. Thanks you to Steve and everyone who helped us get everyone to Platsa and back. We are so grateful for your help.

AGHIOS SOFIA AND PETROVOUNI

AGHIOS SOFIA & PETROVOUNI TUESDAY 7TH MAY 2013

It was the first walk of our spring walks season and what a turn out 37 people and JJ the dog. On a bright sunny warm morning we all assembled in the square in Kardamilli for the walk up through the old town and up to Ag Sofia, where we all had a well deserved break. We then descended in to a lovely wooded gorge and made our way to Petrovouni and a visit to the local church as it prepared for its name day. After another short stop we began our descent down to Kardamilli enjoying stunning views over the Messini Gulf. A pikalia lunch was taken at Diskouri taverna over looking Kardamilli's stunning harbour. Thanks to everyone for joining us and hope our next walk is as successful
