PROASTIO CIRCULAR

PROASTIO CIRCULAR TUESDAY 26TH JUNE

For today's walk our final walk of this season of spring walks, saw us head for the village of Proastio again. 14 of us were greeted by local resident big Mick before the start of the walk. Having done a walk already from Proastio this spring it was time to do another circular. So 14 of us left the village and headed up hill towards Exohori, the morning temperature  was already reaching 30 degrees so there were plenty of water stops. On reaching the Exohori road we crossed over and took the track which goes behind the village of Lakos. We then headed back to Proastio via the church and ruined monastery of Ag Georgeios. Before retiring for a cool beer and lunch at Angelos Taverna for lunch. This was the last walk and the Autumn walking season will begin Tuesday 4th September. Thank you to everyone who as been on the walks this spring. That was a stunning 167 of you. Hope to see you all again soon. Dave & Steve.

There were 8 people on the walk, reduced numbers again because of the hot weather. Once again no pictures. Next Tuesday's walk will be the last of this spring walking season. I will be in attendance I promise and we will have some pictures.

An Extra Walk Tigani Castle

TIGANI CASTLE THURSDAY 7TH JUNE

This walk was an extra walk that we do from time to time if enough people are interested. It was an all day walk with a picnic at Tigani Castle. So 9 of us left Stoupa early for the one and a half hour drive into the Deep Mani to walk what everyone here calls the "Pan Handle". We parked at the village of Aghios Kyriaky, that is where the tarmac ended and the track down to the pan handle starts. It was a very warm and sunny day as we made our way down to the coast, with stunning views back up the Mani coast and of Cape Grosso. The Pan Handle is a narrow strip of land with the sea on either side which leads to Tigani Castle sat on top of a flat top hill. Here we wandered through the ruins of the castle and sat on the walls for lunch. After exploring the castle we returned by the same track back to the cars. We then went for refreshments in the village of Stavri before our return to Stoupa. A big thanks to Martin & Liz for leading the walk.

THALEMES & LANGADA

THALEMES & LANGADA TUESDAY 5TH JUNE 2012

Today saw us walk between the villages of Thalemes and Langada using the kaldarimi. A warm sunny day saw 21 of us and JJ the dog leave Thalemes by the old donkey track and head for the village of Langada. Stopping off on the way at the chapel of the three saints. We then had a walk around the village of Langada and viewed the two ancient maniot tower, one of which has been fully restored. Our walk then left the village and headed towards Trachila. Before we turned off and returned to Thalemes for lunch at the taverna there. It was a warm sunny day throughout.
